Last week it was announced that Kim Jones had teamed up with the luxury cognac brand Hennessy for a collaboration that combines fashion and spirits. The collection includes a bottle, decanter and pair of trainers and is called the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones collection. The pieces aim to blend "cognac and couture" and are the first in the Hennessy X.O Masterpiece series to be created by a fashion designer.
Who is Kim Jones?
Kim Jones OBE is an English fashion designer who graduated from the prestigious Central St Martins College of Art and Design to become the artistic director of Dior Homme (Men), and the Artistic Director of Fendi's women's collection.
In an interview with Vogue, Jones spoke about the collaboration and his admiration for the history and craftsmanship of Hennessy. He also revealed that the collaboration was a natural fit for him as he has always been interested in the intersection of fashion and art.

Jones explained that the design was inspired by Hennessy's history and heritage, and features an intricate pattern that reflects the brand's iconic "Bras Armé" emblem.
The bespoke trainers were also designed with Hennessy's history in mind, with Jones taking inspiration from the brand's founder, Richard Hennessy, who was a British soldier. The trainers do have somewhat of a military feel about them.
Jones emphasized that sustainability was a key consideration throughout the collaboration. He explained that the trainers were made using eco-friendly materials, including recycled rubber and organic cotton, and that the bottle was designed to be reused or repurposed after the cognac had been consumed. Jones is known for pushing the boundaries of fashion and art and has been vocal about his commitment to sustainability.
The nubuck leather trainers are a simple silhouette with grooved rubber soles, imprinted with cognac vines on the base.

The limited edition Hennessy x Kim Jones collection is now available for purchase in select locations around the world, the footwear setting you back a cool £630 ($755 on today’s rate).
Jones told the publication Dezeen, "It was really just looking at the idea of the colour of the cognac, and by taking that through, I wanted one that reflected what the consumer would be, which isn't that dissimilar to someone that Dior or Fendi where, they have that lifestyle where they're casual but smart,".
The London Launch Event
Thanks to the Hennessy NFT project H3NSY, I was invited to the London Launch on Thursday night at the Battersea Arts Centre. It was a great event with the products being presented in futuristic-looking installations and a bar set up with mechanical arms pouring the Hennessy liquor out for the bar staff.
Brit Award and Mercury Prize-winning Artist Little Sims performed on the night, you may also know her from the role of Shelley in Netflix's third series of Top Boy. Kim Jones himself was making the rounds as well as a few other familiar faces like DJ Fat Tony, Jake Hall, and renowned photographer Dave Bennet.
The collaboration is a testament to the growing trend of luxury brands teaming up to create unique and innovative products that appeal to a wide range of consumers. As the fashion industry continues to evolve, collaborations like this are becoming increasingly familiar as designers seek to create cool products that resonate with consumers. I like seeing brands come together whether it’s two fashion brands or fashion and alcohol in this case. Fashion is in a constant cycle of change that has become even more rapid in the digital era so expect to see a lot more of this.
In addition, the Web3 element of the H3NSY project and the Hennessy x Kim Jones London Proof of Attendance (POAP) token are further evidence of major global brands embracing the new and exciting digital evolution.
